NEW BRITNEY SPEARS SONG EMERGES FEAT. ‘X FACTOR’ REJECT DON PHILIP
New Brit Brit Song Alert! Sort of. More like a new but old song. A previously unheard Britney Spears track called ‘Say What,’ featuring rejected ‘X Factor‘ contestant Don Philip, who also collaborated with Brit in the past, has emerged for your listening pleasure.
But first, a little backstory. Philip auditioned for ‘X Factor’ in California, offering up his version of Beyonce‘s ‘Halo’ and tearfully coming out at the same time. Sadly, the judges passed on him and he didn’t make it to the next round. Brit didn’t use her sphere of influence to keep him in the competition, either. It’s interesting that he had already recorded music with a superstar like Brit, but couldn’t get upstreamed on a reality show, no?
Well, it’s not that simple. Philip opened up to Celebuzz (quotes via Ace Showbiz) about the pair of songs he did with Brit, one of which you can listen to below, revealing that they were both signed at the time the songs were recorded since their label bosses thought they’d pair up nicely. Philip said, “When Britney and I did the duet, we were signed to the same label at the same time. They thought we’d be good together. We recorded two songs together, two duets. We recorded them in a little room together. She was really great in the studio; she knew what she wanted to do. She has really, really great vocals.”
In addition to the song below, Philip also appears on ‘I Will Still Love You’ on Brit’s ‘…Baby One More Time’ album. So they clearly have some history together, with her career going in one direction and his in another.
Now about the tune. It is quintessential Brit. She’s breathy and all kinds of sexed up, which is one of her sonic hallmarks. She coos about being at your service and helping relieve stress by doing whatever brings her lover pleasure. Hot, we know. She has quality vocal chemistry with Philip, too.
Take a listen and tell us what you think, PopCrushers. We know it’s not brand new Brit, but it’s something different and not previously heard.
