We know the music industry has changed quite a bit over the last few decades. Vinyl records were replaced by cassettes, which were replaced by CDs, which were eventually made more or less obsolete by the digital music revolution. But here's something we never thought we'd see any time soon: a $250 album.
That's right! Just in time for Christmas, pop queen Rihanna will be releasing a special version of her new album Unapologetic, which drops on November 16.
In all fairness it's not just an album. It's — drumroll please — the "Diamonds Executive Platinum Box" version of the album. That means it also includes a gaggle of goodies like special collectible colored vinyl remixes of the single "Diamonds," a T-shirt featuring a photo of the 24-year-old songstress taken by photographer Michael Muller, along with seven lithographs, stickers, a notebook filled with copies of notes handwritten by RiRi herself, a DVD with never-before-seen footage, and an old-school Viewmaster where fans can view 3D images of the "Rude Boy" singer as part of a style transformation slideshow. The box of swag will be available December 11.
So who's going to pay up for the privilege of owning the "limited-edition" item? Well, probably die-hard Rihanna fans, those with money to burn, and anyone who shelled out $90 for the white T-shirt Gwyneth Paltrow started selling earlier this year … whoever you are.
