We can picture it now: Taylor Swift walks into the board room at her record company only to be confronted by Dr. Evil (Mike Myers). While stroking his hairless kitty, Evil tells America’s prettiest country pop superstar that her new album is on track to sell “One. Million. Units.” Cue the wicked laugh.
Billboard reports that Swifty’s fourth album sold 500,000 units on Monday alone and is on track to double that number by the end of the week. If she nails the landing, Swiftness will be the first female artist in Soundscan history (1991-present) to repeat sales of 1 million units with two separate albums. TayTay will be joining a very elite boys club whose sole members are Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync and Eminem — and their feats occurred at the peak of the record industry 10 years ago (1999-2002).
Like Adele, T-Swizzle is a force to be reckoned with and proof that when the product is good, people will buy it. Unlike Lady Gaga‘s ‘Born This Way’ which sold a massive amount of digital units during an Amazon.com $0.99 sale, fans are having no problem paying full retail for ‘Red.’ On Monday, Target sold 160,000 units of their exclusive deluxe edition that features three bonus songs plus some fresh remixes. Not to be outdone, iTunes is selling a record number of digital units.
Full sales figures will be announced next week. With ‘Red’ soaring into the black, T-Painless will have her newHyannis Port mansion (a stone’s throw from future song subject current boyfriend Conor Kennedy) paid off in no time flat!
