We’ll still have to wait until next month to hear Bruno Mars‘ complete ‘Unorthodox Jukebox,’ but the frequently hatted singer helped whet our appetites for his second album with a recent appearance on the U.K. version of ‘X Factor‘ — complete with a live performance of the set’s leadoff single, ‘Locked Out of Heaven.’
Released to radio in early October, ‘Heaven’ has already scaled the upper reaches of the charts around the globe, breaking the Top 5 of Billboard’s Hot 100 in the U.S. while making its way inside the Top 10 in a long list of countries that includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, South Korea, the UK, and Venezuela.
Clearly, Mr. Mars is a worldwide sensation, and if ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ includes another song or two that boasts as many radio-friendly hooks as ‘Locked Out of Heaven,’ he’s about to shrug off the dreaded sophomore jinx while continuing to chart his own eclectic musical path. As he put it in a recent Billboardinterview, “I listen to a lot of music, and I want to have the freedom and luxury to walk into a studio and say, ‘Today I want to do a hip-hop, R&B, soul or rock record.’”
