Justin Bieber‘s mom, Pattie Mallette, recently released a tell-all memoir, which the 18-year-old pop star admits was ‘tough’ to read.
The 37-year-old’s book, ‘Nowhere but Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom,’ was released in September, and chronicles difficult periods in her life, leading to becoming a single mom to Bieber. The brave Stratford, Ontario native reveals stories of sexual abuse,  depression and a suicide attempt six months before Bieber was born. Naturally, the teen superstar found the admissions hard to digest.
“Yeah, it was a lot for me to hear,” he told Contact Music. “But I’m older now. When I was younger, my mom never told me any of this stuff. It was definitely hard reading those stories, but I’m supportive of her writing the book. It’s cool.”
“Writing the book was part of my healing process,” Mallette said. “Just having to relive things as I’m writing it down. There are parts that are still painful to go over.”
The book reached No. 17 on The New York Times’ Best Seller List during in its first week, and has earned a 4.5-star customer rating on Amazon. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the title have been promised to shelters like the one that helped Mallette in her time of need.
