KATY PERRY COVERS BILLBOARD’S WOMAN OF THE YEAR ISSUE

Congrats to Katy Perry! She is celebrating her Billboard Woman of the Year nod by covering the magazine’s new issue.Set against a powder pink background and wearing electric blue eye shadow, the image is the same as the black and white glam shot that was released yesterday, only in technicolor.
In the video where she talks about this accolade, Perry opens up about the women who inspired her. She admitted that she likes to be viewed as a strong woman, and that Billboard is doing just that with its appointment of her as Woman of the Year.
She reminds us that she wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music other than Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Edith Piaf, the latter was allowable only because her mother speaks French. The subjects these women were singing about were intense. Perry couldn’t enjoy Madonna, but she was allowed to listen to Billie Holiday sing about drugs. Ironic, isn’t it?
Oh, and speaking of being ironic (don’t ya think?), Perry also threw props to not only Patty Griffin and Jonatha Brooke, but to Alanis Morissette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill.’ She cited the 1995 album as a major source of inspiration, since every song struck a chord.
She also hearted Gwen Stefani and Bjork.
As for new music? All she said was that there will be no replication on the ‘Teenage Dream’ follow-up. It will be a ride and that she thinks there is innate value in going away for a minute and being missed.
Hurry back, Katy! And congrats again on being Billboard’s Woman of the Year.
