DEMI LOVATO, ‘HEART ATTACK’ – SONG REVIEW

Demi Lovato fights falling in love in ‘Heart Attack,’ but chances are you won’t be able to resist her charms once you listen.
Slated for a March 4 release but victim to a leak, the song is similar to some of Lovato’s earlier material, but has more of an electronic feel than we’re used to hearing from the former Disney darling. The track combines drum-and-bass with vague hints of EDM and Kelly Clarkson-style guitar-heavy rock-infused pop.
Despite everything that’s going on in terms of instrumentation and production, Lovato’s  vocals are still at center stage, showcasing an impressive range of octaves and holding power. The ‘X Factor‘ fan favorite belts about how scary it is to fall in love:
You make me want to act like a girl / Painting my nails and wear perfume for you / Make me so nervous and I just can’t hold your hand / You make me glow / But I cover up, won’t let it show / So I’m putting my defenses up / ‘Cause I don’t want to fall in love / If I ever did that / I think I’d have a heart attack.”
Lyrically, ‘Heart Attack’ shows Lovato’s vulnerability, but musically and vocally, it shows just how strong she is.
