Tacky, tired and trite. That was Joan River’s dig at Adele‘s weight on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’ last night (Feb. 26).
Giving the host with the most her rundown of the 2013 Oscars, instead of praising Adele for winning Best Original Song or delivering a virtually effortless yet stunning performance of ‘Skyfall,’ Rivers opted to poke fun at the singer’s size.
Rivers said that meeting Adele was one of two disappointments on Oscar night (the other being that she didn’t get seated next to Brad Pitt as promised). “I met Adele,” Rivers said, extending her arms to mock the chanteuse’s width. “What’s her song? ‘Rolling in the Deep?’ She should add ‘fried chicken.’”
Neither cool nor creative, which is unfortunate coming from a comedy pioneer. Still, despite her hurtful comments, Rivers seemed to like the songstress.
“We got along, and she kept saying she was very scared, ’cause she sang at the awards, and she kept saying, ‘My throat, my throat, I don’t know if I can swallow!’” At which point Rivers held up her arms again and quipped, “Oh honey, you can swallow. No question!”
Not nice, and also not that funny.
