The newly
built Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. hasn’t even been open a year and it’s
already booked some of music’s biggest acts including Jay-Z, Rihanna and Alicia
Keys, and later this year, Beyonce. Now the venue will once again make history
as the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards arrives there on Aug. 25.
It will be
the first time ever that MTV will hold their popular awards show in Brooklyn.
“From a
vibrant musical scene for up and coming artists to epic concerts by today’s
biggest stars and the triumphant return of pro sports to the borough after
nearly 60 years, Brooklyn has re-emerged as a cultural capitol where music,
sports and entertainment history is made every day,” said Stephen Friedman,
President of MTV, in a press statement.
“Brooklyn
has become an international brand and is the perfect setting for these moments.
We can’t wait to share our stage with the world,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of
Barclays Center.
No host or
musical performances for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards have been revealed
yet.
