As long as he’s got his ‘Suit & Tie’ and some seriously skyrocketing projections that his new album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ may sell over 900,000 copies its first week in stores, Justin Timberlake doesn’t really need his William Rast fashion label, now does he?
Rumors are spiraling that the always stylish JT may part ways with the denim-based brand that he launched with his BFF Trace Ayala back in 2005. His style has evolved even more and the line, which sells hoodies, premium jeans and sunglasses, doesn’t seem to be in sync (or is that ‘N Sync?) with the tuxedo-oriented direction the ‘Lake is going in at this phase of his career.
NY Mag reports that that fashion breakup is imminent, and that JT may be moving on due to a serious dip in sales. The brand enjoyed New York Fashion Week status when it launched, but it’s now been relegated to discount retailers like JC Penney.
JT has also been dressed by the infinitely stylish designer Tom Ford and ELLE magazine’s creative director and fashion stylist Joe Zee as he mounted his musical comeback, not by Rast, which was named after his (William) and Ayala’s (Rast) grandfathers. JT’s new look is very throwbacky and Rat Pack’ish, falling in line with the music found on his ’20/20.’
The brand has not denied that JT has left, but did diplomatically say that he is forever connected to it by virtue of its name.
That doesn’t sound good to us.
At least we don’t have to worry about Ford or Zee putting JT in a Canadian tux, like the all-denim ensemble he sported when dating Britney Spears. That thing was hideous!
