Though Taylor Swift promised surprises for her RED tour, at the kickoff in Omaha, Neb., she brought some familiar elements — namely in her wardrobe and performances of certain tracks.
Swift rocked a black fedora early in the set, which, as she’s demonstrated in previous awards show performances, she flung off early on. She sported her now-trademark high-waisted shorts, this time in edgy black leather, along with a white lace top, sparkly red oxfords and red lips.
She opened the show with a greeting to her Swifties. “If I’ve seen you before, which I might have, because I really like playing in Omaha, good to see you again. If I haven’t seen you before, it’s nice to meet you — I’m Taylor.” As if they didn’t know.
“I write lots of songs about my feelings, because I have a lot of feelings. And by being here tonight, all 13,500 of you have opted in to hearing songs about my feelings for the next two hours, so thank you for that.” Then she stood there and took it in before advising that the crowd would literally be seeing red — a lot.
Swift later changed into red pants, a black and white striped top and a varsity jacket, putting her blond hair into a ponytail to not get in the way of her choreography — which has improved, but is still a little strange to watch. She also took a seat at a piano in a black lace number for ‘All Too Well,’ as well as several other costume changes, including long white and, of course, red gowns.
