This weekend Canada celebrated the accomplishments of their very own over the past year the the 2013 Juno Awards.
To the surprise of no one, Carly Rae Jepsen was a big winner at the award show, taking home accolades for both Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year for her LP ‘Kiss’! She also won for Single of the Year with ‘Call Me Maybe.’ That was certainly a no brainer!
Pop rockers Marianas Trench were given the honor of Group of the Year and also performed at the award show. Unfortunately for the guys, CRJ beat them for Album of the Year. Maybe another time, dudes!
Canadian hip-hop and R&B was also represented at the award show with the Weeknd winning for Breaththrough Artist of the Year as well as R&B/Soul Recording of the Year and rightfully so. The Toronto producer and musician released his ‘Trilogy’ of R&B mixtapes to huge acclaim last year and seems to be garnering more press and publicity with every single career move.
Good friend of The Weeknd and fellow Toronto native, Drake, received Video of the Year honors for his ‘HYFR,’ clip featuring a hip-hop bar mitzvah that looked like the hottest party in town.
Congrats once again to all the winners and nominees!
