Beyonce has been increasing her participation in social and political affairs, and the ‘Love on Top’ singer hasn’t missed an opportunity nor cause lately. On Saturday (July 20), Bey lent her presence and voice to two pressing issues in one day.
Following her appearance with husband Jay-Z in New York City at a rally in support of the late Trayvon Martin, she headed to the Detroit, Mich. suburbs for her Mrs. Carter Show tour. There, Queen Bey voiced her support of the city, which is facing bankruptcy.
Beyonce added a cover of Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ to her hit-packed set and displayed a montage of iconic scenes from the Motor City’s heyday as well as of Detroit and Motown artists including Berry Gordy, Eminem, Bob Seger, Kid Rock and even the Jacksons.
While Beyonce didn’t address the city’s financial woes directly, a rep for Queen Bey told Billboard, “This was a unique tribute to the history of an incredible city and a celebration of the strong spirit of its people.”
