Miley Cyrus was quite proud of her twerktastic performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, despite most viewers – including Kelly Clarkson and Harry Styles — thinking it may have been somewhat of a twerktastic trainwreck. One thing Cyrus accomplished was getting tongues wagging, if only by leaving her own tongue sticking out for far too long, and she swears that was the point.
“What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re over thinking it,” she insisted to MTV News. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me.”
She added, “I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” Miley asks, “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?”
Cyrus noted other performances that were perhaps better choreographed, but just as controversial as her own. “Madonna‘s done it. Britney‘s done it,” she snapped. “Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for; you’re wanting to make history.”
Still, not all history is great. Just ask the Germans.
