Katy Perry's 'Dark Horse' Video: No Man Can Match The Egyptian Queen

Katy Perry's 'Dark Horse' Video: No Man Can Match The Egyptian Queen
Last week, Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" music video was teased as a deliciously campy send-up of the Egyptian ruler Cleopatra. That's exactly what the pop superstar bestowed her fans on Thursday (Feb. 20), as the No. 1 single, featuring Juicy J, has been given a quirky, neon-colored video that portrays Perry as a mystic queen no mere mortal can win over.
"So you wanna play with magic?" Perry asks in the bridge of the song, and sure enough, a few arrogant kings do indeed enter the game; perched on her throne, the singer gazes as the various pharaohs try to impress her with lavish gifts, and ultimately turns them to sand, or worse. Unlike the ultra-serious "Unconditionally" music video, the "Dark Horse" features a golden carriage with hydraulics, Juicy J emerging from a sarcophagus for his guest verse, stripper poles, an adorable puppy, and too many Katy wigs to count. In other words, Katy is staying trippy with the Three 6 Mafia MC by her side.
"Dark Horse" spends its fourth week atop the Hot 100 chart this week, narrowly edging out Pharrell Williams' single "Happy." The single became Perry's ninth No. 1 single on the tally, and the second from her third full-length "PRISM," following "Roar's" ascent last fall.
The day before the "Dark Horse" video, Perry previewed the clip's Egyptian vibe during a performance at the BRIT Awards in London. The pop star also performed the track at the Grammy Awards ceremony, alongside Juicy J. Watch the BRIT Awards performance below:
