nitially, Lady Gaga was to release her “Do What U Want” video last December. She never did, though, blaming time constraints and “betrayal” – an unsatisfying explanation, considering how her ARTPOP duet with R. Kelly(and redux with Christina Aguilera) blew away critics and fans alike. Earlier today (June 19), a leaked snippet and anonymous statements hint at other, more incriminating reasons why the “Do What U Want” video was never released.
In the snippet, Lady Gaga lays naked on a hospital bed, covered by only a sheet. R. Kelly, playing doctor, reaches for her underneath the sheet, making her moan slightly. (“Sounds like that medicine’s starting to kick in,” he says.) The video cuts to a party scene, over that same hospital bed: As R. Kelly lights up a cigar, nurses crawl over and toy with a comatose Gaga’s body. Another scene catches her in a room, either in dancing in a dress of tabloids or naked and writhing explicitly, before director Terry Richardson. See it below.
Gaga’s “Do What U Want” video wasn’t scrapped just for being sexually explicit, though. According to Page Six, it was never released because of the growing controversy surrounding her collaborators.
By December, several models had accused Richardson of sexually assaulting and harassing them – claims that the famed photographer refutes in New York‘s latest cover story, “Is Terry Richardson an Artist or Predator?” Meanwhile, R. Kelly faced an overwhelming backlash after a Village Voice interview with Jim DeRogatis, the Chicago reporter who broke the story of R. Kelly’s own sexual assault accusations, filed by teenaged girls. (“The saddest fact I’ve learned is nobody matters less to our society than young black women.Nobody,” DeRogatis said.)
“Gaga had a video directed by an alleged sexual predator, starring another sexual predator,” an unnamed source said to Page Six. “With the theme, ‘I’m going to do whatever I want with your body’? It was literally an ad for rape.”
